Getting Around London from the Royal Arsenal
The Royal Arsenal is that far flung military site, isn’t it? Not anymore. The Royal Arsenal is a buzzing development site, where ca. 5,000 homes are set to be built by 2030 and by 2018 a new cross rail station is opening there, in addition to the nearby DLR at Woolwich Arsenal and the Clipper Thames Service at the Royal Arsenal Riverside. In other words - it’s soon going to be one of the most connected sites in London.
You’d think it would take a long time to get to central London from the Royal Arsenal, but think again - it’s actually incredibly easy and fast to get there and with the opening of the cross rail station even faster and easier.
Using the DLR at Woolwich Arsenal, it currently takes 12 minutes to get to Canning Town and 19 minutes to get to Canary Wharf - both stations offer access to the Jubilee line, which will take you to central London. It takes approximately 34 minutes in total to get to Liverpool Street and 35 minutes to get to Bond Street.
Not only can you catch the train to central London, you can catch a boat too!
If you fancy a night of entertainment at the O2 it only takes 8 minutes with the Clipper Thames Service from the Royal Arsenal Riverside to North Greenwich. To Greenwich itself it takes 16 minutes - perfect if you work in the bustling arts and culture scene there.
If you work at Canary Wharf, Tower or London Bridge City, it takes 29, 38 and 42 to minutes respectively.
Whilst getting to central London by boat takes longer than using the DLR, it requires no changes and it’s perfect in summer when you can enjoy breakfast and reading a magazine, or doing work on your iPad, whilst traveling. Not to mention - those summer date nights! To Bankside it takes 46 minutes, Blackfriars 49 minutes, Embankment 55 minutes, Westminster 58 minutes and the London Eye 65 minutes.
Of course the Clipper Thames Service is also perfect when the people from out of town come to visit and want to do sightseeing!
The DLR at Woolwich Arsenal doesn’t just take you to central London, you also get to London City Airport in record time - a mere 7 minutes. For frequent travelers it’s perfect. Especially if you fly with British Airways, or Easy Jet. Getting to Paris by means of the Eurostar used to seem fast, but flying there is faster, as is flying to any destination in Europe. Never mind Brexit, you can, at the very least, get to Europe fast if you live at the Royal Arsenal. Make it the Royal Arsenal Riverside and you have a splendid view at home, as well as in the air!
In 2018 the new Royal Arsenal Crossrail station is set to open its doors. With it journey times to central London will be greatly reduced. In fact, in some instances it will be quicker getting somewhere than it would be if you lived in Victoria, or Sloane Square!
The new journey times will be 8 minutes to Canary Wharf, 14 minutes to Liverpool Street and 22 minutes to Bond Street. If you work in the city and want a penthouse apartment looking out over the river, life has never been better! Rents at the Royal Arsenal Riverside are considerably cheaper than in central London and you’ll be able to get to work in no time. Not surprisingly, property management companies and letting agents in SE18 have been doing a victory dance ever since the news of the corssrail station were made public.
In short, the Royal Arsenal will be one of the best connected spots in London - the perfect place to live if you want modern housing and easy access to central London. What’s more, the Royal Arsenal has retained some of its historic past by refurbishing the old houses, meaning its character is different from other development sites in London. The proximity to the river makes it unique as well.
